Welcome to the Science Leadership Network Information Page
This group was designed for coordinators, directors, and administrators who have science responsibilities and/or supervision in their buildings or districts. The purpose of the Science Leadership Network is to promote communication and collaboration between districts, facilitate problem solving, and enhance science education in our region.
Next meeting is Tuesday, May 9, 2017 from 8:30 to 12:00. Please sign up using MLP. We will discuss any follow-up from our January meeting, review the plans (elementary curriculum materials program, regional professional development offerings, etc.) for the 2017-2018 school year, and discuss the two books we have been reading. To facilitate a productive discussion please read chapters 5, 6, and 7 in the Science Teacher Learning. We will also discuss the chapters we were supposed to read for our January.
Science Teacher Learning (available for free from the National Academies Press if you didn't get a hard copy): Everyone reads chapters 2 & 5. Half the members from your district read chapter 3 and the other half read chapter 4.
Materials provided for the lesson were as follows:
One 3 inch ball and one 1 inch ball (The relative size is important to align with the relative sizes of the Earth and moon. The Earth's diameter is approximately 3.6 times greater than the moon's diameter). I also included a string that was approximately 90 inches in length to represent the properly scaled distance between the moon and Earth.
