The Kasson Rd.  Day Treatment Program is a cooperative between the Onondaga County Department of Children and Family Services and Onondaga-Cortland-Madison BOCES. The Office of Mental Health provides therapists and child care workers to address the ongoing mental health needs of the children enrolled at Cedar Street. OCM BOCES provides teachers and a Supervisor of Special Education to allow the students full access to the same education that their peers in district schools receive.

Located at Kasson Rd. in Syracuse, there are five classrooms with grades K-8th and an age range of 5 - 14 years old. The staff also includes a PE teacher, an Art Teacher,  and related Service providers such as speech, OT and PT as needed. Students typically have a disability classification of Emotionally Disturbed. In addition, students have a mental health diagnosis.  Students need to be able to benefit from verbal therapy.  This is a year-round program that remains open during traditional school breaks. national holidays are recognized.

Goals:

Students will develop academic, social/emotional and behavioral skills necessary to be successful in school and their interpersonal relationships. Families are included in the development of these skills. Students will participate in the NYS Assessments with instruction based on the student's individual functioning level.

Daily Routines:

Students come to school on district provided school buses. They eat breakfast and lunch in our cafeteria when they arrive. Throughout the school day, time is dedicated for Common Core aligned lessons in Math, ELA, Science, and Social Studies as well as group therapy, social skill building, and one to one counseling. PE, Music, and Art are offered on scheduled days. Field trips are an important part of the Cedar Street program. Students frequently travel around the county to learn and engage in enriching experiences.

Referral Process:

The student's home district will complete the Centralized Day Treatment Packet to begin the referral process.
