Student Profile
This program is designed for K-12 students with significant mental health needs who require moderate to intensive behavioral supports. Students in this program are typically classified SED, OHI, or LD but classifications can vary. A mental health diagnosis is required for placement in this program.
Desired Outcomes
Daily Activities
Classroom instruction is academic in nature and based on New York State requirements. Students receive instruction in reading, writing and matematics based on their individual functional levels. Students also receive instruction in grade-appropriate content areas such as social studies and science. Art, Music and Physical Education are provided at all grade levels. Elementary classes participate in Physical Education at SUNY Cortland as an additional experience.
These students also receive a menu of services provided by the Franziska Racker Centers including: therapy, psychiatric services, crisis intervention, family support/therapy, and case management. An intake screening must be conducted prior to placement per OMH regulations.
Referral Process
The office responsible for coordinating student services from the student's home district will contact the appropriate BOCES program administrator to begin the referral process.

- Students will develop the academic, social emotional and behavioral skills necessary to be successful.
- Programming will be based on the individual needs and strengths of the student.
- Instruction will be based on the student's individual functioning level and will be aligned with the New York State Learning Standards.
- Behavior will be addressed by an individual behavior plan.
