Tanya has served as Mid-State's RBERN Coordinator for the last seven years. Prior to her current role, she served as a Lead and ENL teacher for the New York City Department of Education. Tanya holds a Bachelors degree in Broadcast Journalism from Hofstra University, a Masters in TESOL Education from Lehman College and a Masters in Educational Leadership from Bank Street College.

Yanira was born in Colombia where she studied Teaching English and Spanish as Foreign Languages, and Language Acquisition. She holds a Masters degree in Education from Wake Forest University. She has taught for over 20 years in Early childhood, K-12 and Teacher Training between Colombia, Germany and the US in NC, DE and NY. She has experience in language programs such as teaching English/Spanish as foreign languages, bilingual and ENL programs. Among her areas of interest are Bilingual Education, Early Childhood education, Culturally Responsive teaching, Mindfulness and Neurolinguistics among others.

Maria is a retired World Language teacher from the Solvay School District. She has 30 years of teaching experience, speaks 5 languages, and is National Board certified. Maria is devoted to positively impacting student achievement. She is passionate about accomplished teaching, professional collaboration and reflective practice. Maria’s focus at Mid-State RBERN is to support districts with their World Language and ENL programs including the State Seal of Biliteracy, encouraging and strengthening multilingual, multicultural experiences for all students. She is the lead trainer for the Syracuse delegation of the Puerto Rican/Hispanic Youth Leadership Institute.

Collette is a full-time Resource Specialist at Mid-State RBERN with over 20 years of teaching experience working with diverse learners, including English language learners, at the adult, college, and K-12 levels as well as teaching abroad, and hold New York state certifications in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, and ESOL. Her educational background is in the areas of Linguistics, World Language, TESOL, and Childhood Education. Areas of focus include: ENL/BE support, NYSESLAT Passage and Item Adjudication, Parent Engagement, SIFE, Migrant Education, PRHYLI and event coordination.
Kimi Sisskind

Kimi received her Master's Degree in TESOL from the University at Albany. While in graduate school, she taught English to elementary students in Gangnam, South Korea. Kimi spent the past 12 years teaching ESOL for Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) where she primarily worked with Newcomers and SIFE students at the secondary level. In addition, she wrote ENL curriculum and served as an ESOL Department Chair for FCPS. Her passion includes advocacy for ELLs, integrating Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and Strategies for Success skills into English classes.

Valéria joins the Mid-State RBERN team after serving as an Administrator in Human Resources for over 30 years in Brazil. She holds multiple degrees including a Bachelor’s in Secondary Education and a Master's degree in Human Resources Administration and Management. Her inspiration for joining Mid-State RBERN was influenced by her positive participation as a student in the OCM BOCES Adult Education ESOL program.
