BOCES students build beds for children in need
Thirty-five children in Syracuse have a nice place to sleep thanks to OCM BOCES students who rolled up their sleeves recently to build beds at Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a non-profit organization in Syracuse that provides beds, mattresses and bedding to those in need.
Innovation Tech facilitator Nolan Byrnes, school counselor Kayla Beyer, Career Development & Occupational Studies teacher Kelly Larkin & social worker Sharswayla Bonilla brought about 25 students to the non-profit organization's workshop on Brown Avenue, where they worked at stations and took turns sanding and drilling to make the bed frames come to life.
Volunteers guided their work wearing light-blue T-shirts with the organization's slogan, "No kid sleeps on the floor in our town."
