BOCES IS App!
There’s a new IS (Instructional Support) app! You can “buy” it for free at the app store. Why is that a handy thing to do? Because our annual conference is linked directly to the front page of the app, so you can put it on your phone or iPad and use that for the conference!
Rounding out our conference presentations we have some great offerings. Sue Kowalski will bring her trademark energy to a session devoted to “Advocating through Action”. Bill Reilly and Banna Rubinow of River’s End Bookstore will be there to showcase what’s new in “new books” this fall. Michelle Bishop of SUNY Oswego will share what needs doing to make our students college ready. Debby Stack of WCNY will share what’s new at PBS. And, we’ve got Ithaca lawyer, Mike Brown, on tap to share the latest in Digital Responsibility.

Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose – the more things change, the more they stay the same.
Mary and I are engaged in the final stages of planning for the October 25th Core Research presentation. We are delighted to collaborate with our colleagues in Network Team and CI&A to bring this to our region. It’s exciting to see them so engaged with the inquiry process that Barbara Stripling laid out in the Information Fluency Continuum. While it’s not new for librarians to think about research in terms of inquiry, it IS new for us to be collaborating so fully with our teacher peers on it. This is good for librarians, good for teachers, and good for students! I am thrilled to be a part of it.
When you call for help with your Cooperative Collection Development (CCD) order or ILL, Mary Ann Beattie is the person at the other end of the phone. Don’t forget: if you’re thinking “ILL”, think books AND board games, Wiis, flip cameras, and iPads. Mary Ann handles them all because SLS lends them all. The CCD deadline is December 1, but Mary Ann is happy to take your CCD order now and get it back to you in time for your students to really enjoy it this school year. You can reach Mary Ann at mbeattie@ocmboces.org or by calling 433-2663.
