Battle of the Books Returns with Record Participation
April 1, 2026
A record 3,470 students from across Central New York took part in the 2026 Battle of the Books, organized by the O²CM School Library System. The popular reading competition continues to grow, now including teams from multiple BOCES regions, districts, and homeschool groups.
Students read eight books and competed in quiz-style matches, advancing from school and district levels to regional and super regional championships. The event also featured community guest readers and strong collaboration from educators who help select books and write questions each year.
All participants received commemorative pennants and certificates, while top teams earned trophies and plaques. Matches were livestreamed so families could join the excitement.
