Innovation Tech high school students take a ‘Step in the Right Direction’

Innovation Tech began the school year with “A Step in the Right Direction”— a three-day orientation program designed to help students build confidence, set goals, and connect with peers and teachers.

The program introduces students to the concept of project-based learning, reflection, and community-building activities that highlight the orientation themes of growth, belonging, purpose, leadership, and kindness.

Principal Trista Brundage said the orientation sets a positive tone for the year and gives students a strong foundation for success.

“Our student orientation has been a great way for us to kick off our 2025-26 school year,” Brundage said. “We have focused on building a welcoming and affirming environment, through the themes of growth, belonging, purpose, leadership, and kindness, while helping students to set goals and identify how they will utilize the Innovation Tech community to reach those goals.”

Students take part in activities that encourage them to think about who they are, what they want to achieve, and how they can contribute to the school community.

Throughout the first week of school, many wrote down personal goals—both short and long-term—on a paper cut-out of a shoe and posted them on a wall that charts their journey toward success. They also wrote down and posted potential obstacles to those goals to acknowledge them and show they can be overcome.

By the end of the week, students were left with a clearer sense of purpose for the year ahead and a large visual in the hallway to help them better achieve their goals.
