109 OCM BOCES Cortlandville CTE & New Vision students inducted into NTHS
It was standing room only as family, friends and staff packed both levels of the McEvoy Auditorium at the Cortlandville Campus, where OCM BOCES honored 109 students with induction into the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) on April 10. The prestigious recognition celebrates students for their academic achievement, strong character and success in hands-on, career-focused programs.
To be eligible, students must maintain a GPA of 85 or higher, demonstrate good attendance, and exemplify the core attributes of NTHS: respect, honesty, skill, responsibility, leadership, service and citizenship. The society’s mission is to celebrate “deserving students who have chosen technical education pathways to a successful future.”
As part of the ceremony, students lit candles symbolizing each of the seven NTHS attributes. They also received cords from Career and Technical Education Principal Deb Wood and tassels to wear with their graduation gowns in their home school districts.
Students were congratulated by OCM BOCES administrators, including Eric Comtois, director of CTE and New Vision programs; Deputy Superintendent Colleen Viggiano; and District Superintendent Matt Cook, Ed.D. Each student also recited a pledge to uphold the values of NTHS.
The inductees are enrolled in Career and Technical Education and New Vision programs at the Cortlandville Campus, including Automotive Collision Technology; Automotive Technology; Computer Technology; Construction Technology; Cosmetology; Culinary and Pastry Arts; Early Childhood Education; Graphic Communications; Health Occupations; Physical Therapy Professions; Welding Technology; New Vision Environmental Science; and New Vision Medical Professions.
Earlier in the week, students from the Thompson Road Campus were recognized in a separate ceremony. OCM BOCES extends its congratulations to all NTHS inductees! See the list of Cortland-area inductees here.
