OCM BOCES Capital Project

This project will improve classrooms and other learning spaces in the McEvoy Building at our OCM BOCES Cortlandville Campus and in the Career & Technical Education Building at our OCM BOCES Thompson Road Campus.

Project Goal

  • Enhance learning environments by creating spaces that are safer, more accessible and up-to-date so students can thrive.
  • Upgrade mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems to ensure  facilities are more reliable, energy-efficient and secure.
  • Create and maintain a welcoming and future-ready environment for a rapidly growing number of students at OCM BOCES.

Why do we need this project?

  • OCM BOCES has not done a major capital project in more than 30 years.
  • During that time, enrollments in Career & Technical Education (CTE) have climbed rapidly—nearly 30% in just the past five years at our Thompson Road and Cortlandville campuses. This growth has increased the need for well-planned, functional classroom spaces that support both students and staff.
  • Routine building and maintenance budgets are not designed to handle the scale of needed improvements, including roofs, plumbing, security systems, HVAC and other essential equipment that is outdated, failing or nearing the end of their useful life. This project addresses these critical infrastructure needs to ensure the safe, healthy and efficient operation of our schools.
  • Addressing these issues now helps us avoid larger, more expensive repairs down the road.
  • The New York State Education Department mandates a Building Condition Survey every five years; OCM BOCES has used this assessment to carefully prioritize the most critical upgrades.

Cost

Cost: $30.5 million

  • A large portion of the cost (65%) will be covered by New York State aid.

  • Remaining costs (35%) will be shared proportionally by our 23 component districts, based on student enrollment.

  • Because the cost is spread across all districts, the impact on individual taxpayers is small—roughly the price of a cup of coffee per year.

  • The estimated tax impact for homeowners in each of our 23 component districts are available in the boxes below. Please click on your district to review this information.
