OCM BOCES students compete and place in New York State SkillsUSA Conference and Competition

 
The 2016 New York State SkillsUSA conference and competition was held at the Syracuse Fairgrounds from April 27 to 29. Thirty-two students from OCM BOCES qualified to compete in the event and five students took home medals, with one student qualifying for national competition. More than 2,000 Career and Technical Education students from across New York State competed in contests, which include written and performance exams, during the three-day event.












The following OCM BOCES students received top honors in the state competition:
  1. Gretta Allen, OCM BOCES Cosmetology junior from the Cortland Enlarged City
    School District – 3rd place in Esthetics category
  2. Joe Carey, OCM BOCES Culinary Arts junior from the West Genesee Central
    School District – 2nd place Restaurant Service category
  3. Madeleine Medley, OCM BOCES Culinary Arts senior from the North Syracuse
    Central School District – 1st place in Cake Decorating category
  4. Noah Napoli, OCM BOCES Automotive Technology senior from the North Syracuse
    Central School District – 2nd place in Automotive Service Technology category
  5. Shannon Perrotta, OCM BOCES Health Occupations senior from the Baldwinsville
    Central School District – 1st place, state champion, in Medical Math category (qualified for national competition)

Skills USA is a national organization serving teachers and high school/college students preparing for careers in technical, skilled and service occupations, including health occupations. The organization provides quality education experiences for students in leadership, teamwork, citizenship and character development and builds and reinforces self-confidence, work attitudes and communications skills.
