OCM BOCES’ Teaching & Data Dates for 2013-2014

  1. All Background/Fall/Entry data must be submitted within 3 weeks of beginning Roaming Around the Known with a new Reading Recovery child
  2. Exit data must be submitted within 1 week of a child’s program ending
  3. There is a maximum of two-day turnaround between children (see RRCNA STANDARDS AND GUIDELINES for Trained Reading Recovery teachers)
September 4 Select Random Sample children online
September 4-6 1- Begin to assess the lowest 20-50% of your first grade population (if you’re a TNI school, be sure to assess a larger pool of children)
2- Assess Random Sample
September 6 Enter and submit your building data, your teacher data, and Background/Fall/Entry data for Random Sample children on IDEC WEB Site
September 16 1- Last day to begin Roaming Around the Known with all Reading Recovery children
2- Send Selection Sheets with Observation Survey scores with RR children highlighted to F. Malavé, Rodax 8, 6075 East Molloy Road, Syracuse, NY 13206
September 30 Enter and submit Background/Fall/Entry data for all Reading Recovery children on IDEC Site
Oct.-Dec. Seek colleague and TL help with your hardest to reach child
Nov.-Feb. Fall entry children have their lesson series successfully discontinued
Jan. 13- Jan.31 Administer Observation Survey to Random Sample or TNI children
Jan. 31 Enter and submit Mid-year data for Random Sample children on IDEC WEB Site
January 31 End of first 20 weeks
February 3 Last possible date to begin Mid-year entry children
February 3- 7 Enter and submit Exit data for fall entry Reading Recovery children on IDEC site
Feb 10 - 14 Enter and submit Background/Fall/Entry data on all mid-year entry Reading Recovery children on IDEC site
Enter and submit Background/Fall/Mid data on TNI children
June 4 Last official day of lessons for Reading Recovery children
June 5-13 End of year testing of all 13-14 Reading Recovery children
June 4 - 20 Administer Observation Survey to Random Sample or TNI children
Begin collecting benchmark results for Grade 2 (former RR children)
June 9-13 Complete, check and correct ALL data on IDEC WEB Site
Print student reports for each Random Sample and Reading Recovery child from the IDEC WEB Site
June 16-20 Records in Day - use courier system and send all necessary info. to Frances Malave, Reading Recovery Teacher Leader, Rodax 8, 6075 East Molloy Road, Syracuse, NY 13206
June 25 Data released to IDEC, site’s report received

K-2 Leveled Literacy Intervention Training (Initial)

The Fountas & Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention System (LLI) is a small group, supplementary intervention designed for children who find reading and writing difficult. LLI is designed to bring children quickly up to grade-level competency - in 14 to 18 weeks on average. Lessons across the three systems progress from beginning reading in Kindergarten or Grade 1 (Level A) to beginning reading for Grade 3 (Level N).

Intermediate Leveled Literacy Intervention Training (Initial)

The LLI Red System (Grade 3), Gold System (Grade 4) and Purple System (Grade 5) are systematic small-group supplementary interventions used to bring struggling readers and writers to grade-level competency through intensive, supportive lessons and engaging leveled books. These Systems are designed for students who are reading below grade level. It is a supplementary intervention program that supports RTI (Tier 2 & 3) through focused small group instruction in reading and writing.

On-going Leveled Literacy Intervention K-4 Meetings (12:30-3 PM session)

This on-going professional development will be 4 meetings over the course of the year. These meetings will facilitate discussions around the Leveled Literacy Intervention Systems K-5 as well as provide new learning that will support the Leveled Literacy Intervention.
