Special Education GED

Student Profile
This program is designed for students who are in grades 11-12 and are classified either LD or ED.  Students enrolled in this program have an IQ of at least 80 and TABE results in the 6.0 - 8.0 grade range.  Students placed in this is a 15:1:1 classroom should be able to remain focused on task, work well in small and large groups, as well as individually, without interfering with the ability of the classroom staff to teach or work with other students.  It is not a placement for students whose behavioral issues are so severe to warrant routine administrative oversight, intense behavior management planning, or primary instruction in a 1:1 format.  Placement in this class assumes functional reading between 6th and 8th grade.

Daily Activities

This program is designed for students who are not being academically successful in their high school classes.  It provides an alternate diploma route and prepares students to attempt the TASC exam.  It is a half-day program focusing on reading in the content areas, math, and writing skills.  Students participate in vocational training during the other half of the day.  Group and/or individual counseling is available as needed.

Referral Process

The office responsible for coordinating student services from the student's home district will contact the appropriate BOCES program administrator to begin the referral process.
