MEDICAL BILLING

This medical billing course is designed primarily for the person who plans to seek employment in a physician's office/clinic, or in a hospital setting. It can also provide the necessary background of the reimbursement process to establish one's own billing business. This course enables the student to: have a basic overview of the role of the insurance billing specialist, know the entry-level basics of health insurance, be able to read a medical document and translate the words into ICD-9 and CPT-4 codes, write or electronically submit insurance claim forms on 1500 forms, receive payments and solve problems concerning claims, become familiar with the most frequently used insurance facilities including Private Pay, Managed care, Medicare, Medicaid, Worker's compensation, Disability and hospital billing. Prerequisite: Medical terminology and basic computer skills. Textbook required.

PHLEBOTOMY TECHNICIAN
For persons in the medical field, this certification program is approved by the National Phlebotomy Association. Topics include the role of the phlebotomist, patient identification, suitability of specimens, collection equipment, interfering substances, venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques, test requisitioning, specimen transport and processing and quality assurance in phlebotomy. Anatomically correct arms are used in class. Testing for NPA certification will be given at the final session. An additional fee of $100 will be necessary prior to testing. Text required. Prerequisite: LPN, EMT, CNA, RN, MA, or equivalent medical experience.
